The following is the statement issued to the Grey Nomads from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service regarding online booking issues:
- The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) booking system provides near real-time information about campsite availability at all locations across NSW. Available campsites can be booked online or via phone for same-day arrival.
- Campsite bookings have reduced overcrowding, as well as issues with visitors arriving at full campgrounds and being unable to find a suitable campsite during peak visitation periods.
- The booking system also enables NPWS to directly alert visitors of adverse conditions and unexpected closures.
- Outside peak travel periods, national parks in NSW generally have plenty of available sites.
- NPWS has listened to feedback from our visitors and is aware of a “no show” issue, and as a result, NPWS has made it easier for visitors no longer intending to travel to cancel their booking. Visitors can now change the date of their booking in the same campground and retain 100% of money paid, or get a 50% refund on a cancellation up to the day of arrival.
- Visitors can amend or cancel their booking online in a few clicks, or by calling the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757.
- We send reminders to visitors to amend or cancel their booking if they no longer intend to travel.
- NPWS seeks feedback from every booking and visitors provide valuable insights that help NPWS improve processes and policies to ensure more visitors get to enjoy our parks.
- Feedback can also be provided via the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757 or via the feedback form on our website.
